Leverage NCDPI and District Staff

It is recognized that each LEA will likely have different needs in terms of the kind of support required as you begin to implement a Social Media program to help prospective candidates know about your current position vacancies. As a starting point, it is always a good idea to understand any social media activity underway in your LEA. If your LEA has a Public Information Officer or someone serving in that role, it would be a good idea to discuss Social Media activities already underway or envisioned with them as Social Media planning gets underway.

  • Contact your Public Information/Communications Office
    • What policies and/or procedures exist that you need to adhere?
    • What tools do they have and how do they use them?
    • How can they help reach your goals using the technology?

Write to Engage
  • Write in plain language. Do not use a lot of acronyms or jargon.
  • Let your personality show, while being professional and respectful. You represent your district and Board of Education.
  • Do not engage in arguments or extensive debates.

Be Active
  • Maintaining a successful social media presence means investing some time and resources. Social media is a two-way street.
  • Check your sites a few minutes each day.
  • Post fresh content several times a week.
  • Ask questions and answer them.
  • Stick around after you post so you quickly respond to comments.
